On Thursday 01/11/2018 the Holyoke Police Department was asked by the 13th Judicial District Probation Department to stand by at a residence located at 445 West Johnson Street in Holyoke while they conducted a home visit of a probationer. Chief Doug Bergstrom and Sergeant Mark Werts stood by at the residence while they conducted the visit.
During the course of the home visit, items were located that caused the visit to transform into a criminal investigation. A search warrant was then obtained.
Items located included in the residence included drug paraphernalia, a scale, baggies, and felony amounts of marijuana.
Arrested at the residence was Leslie Moore, age 29, of Holyoke. She was charged with a probation violation, violation of a restraining order, and offenses related to marijuana. Her bond was set at $10,000 for the probation violation and $15,000 for the other charges.
Shortly thereafter, Sergeant Werts, assisted by Phillips County Undersheriff William (JR) Meyers and Deputy Phil Biersdorfer conducted a traffic contact on a semi-tractor trailer in the 100 block of East Johnson. The driver of the semi and the passenger both also were residents of the 445 West Johnson Street address. During the course of the traffic contact, the driver of the semi identified as Joseph Olivarez, age 24, was found to have three warrants from Nebraska.
A search warrant for the semi was obtained and more marijuana, another scale, and baggies were located within the cab of the semi.
Olivarez and Mark Vela, age 25, were arrested without incident. Both were charged with offenses related to marijuana. Bond was set for Olivarez at $1,500 for the Nebraska warrants and $5,000 on the Holyoke charges. Bond was set at $2,500 for Vela.
The next court date for the three is set for January 16th in Phillips County District Court.
